Police shoot four rioters in new outbreak

China Daily | Updated: 2011-08-01 08:17

KASHGAR, Xinjiang - Four suspects were shot dead by police in the city of Kashgar in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Sunday afternoon, following an eruption of violence at 4:30 pm, in which more than 10 pedestrians and police officers were injured.

Four other suspects were caught, while police are still looking for another four.

The rioting happened after at least seven people in the city were killed when two people hijacked a truck at 11:45 pm on Saturday, stabbing the driver to death and then ramming into pedestrians. The pair later jumped out of the truck and hacked at bystanders.
