Australia hails 'missile' Magnussen

SYDNEY - Australian media on Friday rejoiced in the nation's latest swimming sensation, James Magnussen, after he clocked a stunning 100m freestyle win at the World Championships in Shanghai.

"Arise mighty Magnussen" declared the Sydney Morning Herald above a front-page image of the 20-year-old with arms outstretched after his 47.63 seconds dash to victory on Thursday.

"A superstar is born," chimed Sydney's Daily Telegraph. "The man they call 'The Missile' showed them he is a force to be reckoned with at the London Olympics and beyond," the paper said.
