Train attendants: Wrong focus

Like many others in the United States, I congratulate China for its success with high-speed railways, which is an important step in the country's development and will show that it is indeed a world-class power.

But I was alarmed by the qualifications that attendants on the trains were required to have. Reports in China Daily say the attendants have to be "female, younger than 28, be of fair complexion and have a shapely figure that conforms to selection standard".
