Guiyang limits new car plates

The government of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province in Southwest China, announced last week it has restricted car plate registrations, becoming the second city after Beijing to control the number of new vehicles on its streets.

The policy says that after July 12 car buyers can opt for either an unrestricted license plate that is granted by a lottery system or an immediately issued plate that is invalid inside the first ring road of the city.
