The Albert Parvin Journalism Fellowship at the University of Hawaii led me into the career of journalism, which has provided me with opportunities to meet with people across all sectors and ranks: from artists, scientists, ecologists and academicians to heads of states and governments around the world.

My experience in the place where US President Barack Obama grew up enabled me to find out where the journalist "beef" was and enlightened me: Yes, I Can.

On my first day in Hawaii, on the way from the airport to the campus, it was the first time I realized that words in English such as the Likelike Highway had another pronunciation, a Hawaiian one. When I read it loudly phonetically, the taxi driver laughed out loud.

Going to Hawaii was my first trip abroad. It allowed me to develop my understanding of our readers, which immensely benefited my career in China Daily.
