China painting nets record $65 million at auction

A 1946 work by Qi Baishi fetched a record price for a contemporary Chinese painting at an auction in Beijing on Sunday.

The 100 by 266 centimeter painting of an eagle perched on the branch of a pine tree, surrounded by two calligraphy scrolls, went under the hammer for 425.5 million yuan ($65.5 million) at the China Guardian auction house.
