SHANGHAI - The US state of Virginia opened a trade office in Shanghai on Wednesday, as it hopes to get a greater share of business in the world's second-largest economy.
Governor Bob McDonnell said the office will largely deal with trade and investment issues, but will also play a role in promoting cultural exchanges.
"I realize the value of a strong relationship with China, and committed in my campaign to establish this office. I applaud the Virginia legislature's decision to invest in the (state's) efforts to expand its international reach," McDonnell said.
