Save some praise for designer Tilke

Sunday's DHL Turkish Grand Prix was the last of the initial seven-year contract. It seems unlikely the country will renew its deal with F1 - a shame because the track is complex and challenging.
Herman Tilke designed most of the recent additions to the F1 calendar. Why he so often receives criticism is a mystery. Some seemed to blame the German (himself an enthusiastic racer at the infamous 'old' Nurburgring circuit) for the lack of passing in F1. This was proven false in the past month - at his creations in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul - by exciting races packed to bursting with position changes.
The cars - and in particular the turbulence created by sophisticated aerodynamics - were the problem. It was difficult to get close enough to the car in front in the corner preceding a straight. The apparent solution is a new rule allowing a driver temporarily to reduce the drag of his rear wing when within striking distance of his prey.
