Death toll from landslide rises

QUANZHOU, Guangxi - The death toll in a landslide that swamped a makeshift dormitory at a quarry in southern China has risen to 14 and eight others are presumed dead.

Xinhua News Agency said on Tuesday that rescuers were still searching for the eight missing people, but there were no signs of life.

Xinhua said 13 bodies were recovered in the 24 hours after the landslide hit the quarry in Luojiang village near the resort city of Guilin, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Monday afternoon.
