Former Shenzhen mayor gets death

Sentence suspended for two years following conviction of bribery

BEIJING - The former mayor of the affluent southern Chinese boomtown of Shenzhen received a suspended death sentence on Monday for taking bribes of more than 33 million yuan ($5.1 million).

The Intermediate People's Court of Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan province, sentenced Xu Zongheng to death with a two-year reprieve and also ordered the confiscation of his personal assets.
