Eating well with mother

Hong Kong

When we were growing up, my mother was always reminding us about how nutritious the food we were eating was. She talked about not wasting food, and told us not all expensive food was necessarily "good" food - meaning healthy food. We grew up with fruit and vegetables from our garden, home-baked bread, and farm-fresh eggs.

Hong Kong is a city with loads of variety and choice in food. Eating well in Hong Kong is not necessarily eating healthily though. Many people are shocked and surprised when they find out how much sugar, butter and cream cheese actually goes into a cheesecake. Though it is not wise to eat a great deal of fat- and sugar-laden food every day, it is also not a good idea to deprive ourselves of treats we crave once in a while.
