China Daily | Updated: 2011-05-06 07:17

BEIJING - China's new Internet information office aims to better regulate the Internet to ensure its healthy development, said a chief official of the office on Thursday.

China's Internet sector has witnessed rapid growth but problems such as online porn, gambling and fraud, as well as illegal marketing tricks, have hampered its sound development, the official told Xinhua News Agency, which did not identify the official.

The new office, the State Internet Information Office, will strengthen coordination among different authorities and improve the legal, administrative and technical systems to help regulate the Internet.
