Troubled Indonesia hopes for new era

JAKARTA - Indonesia is hoping to turn the page on a shambolic era in its soccer history after public protests and the launch of a rebel league prompted FIFA to seize control of the sport's national body.
Leadership elections for the troubled Indonesian football association (PSSI) will usher in a new stage, Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng said, after the ousting of the body's colorful former chairman, a convicted embezzler.
"Next month on May 20, a new chapter of Indonesian football can be opened and we'll be able to focus more on the development, on the youth development and the achievement of the national team," Mallarangeng said.
