People are supposed to get a rose with every book they buy on Saturday, the World Book and Copyright Day.

A symbolic day for world literature, April 23 was chosen in 1995 by UNESCO as the World Book and Copyright Day to recognize the cultural and educational importance of books and authors.

The date has great symbolic value in the world of literature. It was on this day that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died in 1616. William Wordsworth, Josep Pla and Manuel Meja Vallejo, too, died on this day, though more than a century apart. And Halldor K. Laxness and Maurice Druon were born on this day.
