No regrets as Vettori’s men fall short again

Daniel Vettori, who stepped down as New Zealand one-day captain after the five-wicket World Cup semifinal defeat against Sri Lanka, admitted his team fell just short once again.

Tuesday's defeat at the R. Premadasa Stadium was New Zealand's sixth failure to go beyond the semifinal stage, after it was restricted to a below-par 217-run total.

But the Black Caps, who beat South Africa in the quarterfinals, went down fighting.
