Topic: Tomb-sweeping Day

As per tradition, Chinese people have started to burn paper offerings as a mark of respect to ancestors and lost loved ones for Qingming, or Tomb-sweeping Day. However, some say the custom is wasteful and harmful to the environment.

Statistics show that the whole country annually burns almost 1,000 tons of papers around Tomb-sweeping Day. On the day alone, the country's "white waste" is as high as 10 billion yuan. As it is approaching, people have been calling for a curb on these commemorations.
