BEIJING - "Extremely low levels" of radioactive material have been detected in the air along China's southeastern coast, but contamination at such levels will not affect public health or the environment, authorities have said.
Iodine-131 was detected in the air in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Guangdong provinces, as well as in Shanghai and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, according to China News Service.
The information was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee.
