Protecting heritage from the demands of developers

Yunzhang Consolidated Benevolent Association (Yunzhang Gongsuo), the office building for Nanjing Yunjin (silk industry) Guild, built during the Qing Dynasty in 1895. More than 30 ancient districts in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province, were demolished in 2007 for the sake of economic growth and what some called reckless developments. BEIJING - Yao Yuan, a Peking University doctoral student who majored in politics, has found another way to fulfill himself by contributing to the protection of ancient and historic districts in Nanjing - a famous historical and cultural city since it was established 2,500 years ago.
