New French ambassador comes to the capital

Sylvie Bermann, France's new top envoy to China and first female ambassador of France to a major country, arrived in Beijing this week, the French embassy reports. Bermann, 57, speaks Chinese and has 33 years of experience as a diplomat, most recently with Paris' Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Former ambassador Herve Ladsous finished his term last November. According to the Oriental Morning Post in Shanghai, the new ambassador has traveled to China many times for business.
