Police open probe into Chara hit

Montreal police said on Thursday they are probing a check by Boston's Zdeno Chara in a National Hockey League game that left Montreal's Max Pacioretty with a broken verterbra and concussion.

Criminal charges could be brought against Boston's Chara, a 2.05-meter Slovakian defenseman, who slammed Pacioretty into a glass partition between the team benches late in the second period of the Canadiens' 4-1 victory on Tuesday.

"I got some media information on that this morning," Chara said after a Bruins workout on Thursday.
