Changbai Mountains, located in Jilin province in Northeast China, has long been a winter attraction for tourists.
But for those not inclined to brave the chill, the Jilin Singing and Dancing Troupe's The Charm of Changbai Mountains offers all of the mountains' sights through a song-and-dance extravaganza at the Beijing Exhibition Hall Theater.
Organized in three parts, the show presents the history of the mountains on the boundary between China and North Korea, the lifestyle of the people that live there and the romance of the legends associated with it.
Directed by He Lishan, from Chinese Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble, the show has been in the making for more than a year.
According to He, besides traditional songs and dances, it will also feature 16 programs, including solo ice dancing and yangge, a popular form of Chinese folk dance.
The show debuted in December 2010 and it is coming to Beijing for the first time.
