Site of red history seeks aid for faster growth

BEIJING - Legislators and political advisers from Central China's Hubei province are urging the central government to include favorable policies for one of China's revolutionary cradles into its national blueprint.

During discussions on the government work report, deputies of the National People's Congress (NPC) from Hubei suggested the report encourage quicker development of the mountainous region of Dabieshan, an old revolutionary base.

"By vigorously developing the sprawling mountainous region, we want to make a big difference for the lives of the people in the area, which is home to 1.17 million poverty-stricken residents in Huanggang city alone," said Liu Xuerong, an NPC deputy.
