Police prepare for holiday crush

By Li Jiabao | China Daily | Updated: 2011-02-01 07:56

The capital's police force is geared up to deal with safety and security challenges posed by the massive crowds expected at temple fairs and other major events during Spring Festival.

"Preparations to maintain security and safety at events during Spring Festival have been completed," said Zi Xiangdong, a spokesman with the Municipal Public Security Bureau.

And the challenge is a large one. The capital is set to host 94 large events during the holiday. Most of the activities will be held in seven districts including Chaoyang, Tongzhou and Haidian, according to a news release from the bureau's public security management unit.
