Off-setting greenhouse gases by planting trees in Sichuan province

CHENGDU - A carbon-offset project was launched by the pharmaceutical company Novartis AG on Dec 16 to increase plantation on mountains and enhance biodiversity in Sichuan province.

The project was jointly implemented by the Sichuan Forestry Department and the Nature Conservancy, with support from the Daduhe Forestation Bureau.

An estimated 5 million trees will be planted on approximately 3,800 hectares of deforested mountains in Sichuan, in southwestern China, between 2011 and 2014.
