Call to implement welfare for heroes

BEIJING - Beijing resident Xiao Chaoying, 61, recalled a heroic deed she performed 14 years ago while attending a charity event.

The pensioner was badly burned and her 20-year-old daughter was killed when a leaking gas tank suddenly exploded as she was taking it out of her courtyard and away from danger.

"It was extremely dangerous and the neighbors were in panic," Xiao recalled. "So I stepped up and sought to move the dangerous canister to somewhere safe."
