BEIJING - The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-il on Thursday met China's senior diplomat Dai Bingguo in Pyongyang amid high tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The two sides reached a consensus on bilateral relations and tensions on the Korean Peninsula after candid and in-depth talks, the Xinhua News Agency reported from Pyongyang.
It marked the first time that Kim has met a senior foreign official since the Nov 23 exchange of artillery fire between the two Koreas that left four dead in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and a steep escalation in regional tensions.
