BEIJING - A warship from China arrived over the weekend to protect a Chinese cargo ship with a crew of 26 who repelled an attempted hijacking by pirates in the northern Indian Ocean on Thursday night.

Doctors have boarded the vessel - the Lecong, belonging to China Ocean Shipping Company - to treat the chef, Lin Hongqiang, who sustained injuries during the fight with the pirates.

The Lecong crew fought off the pirates in the Arabian Sea with "weapons" that included beer bottles.
