Myanmar voting goes well despite boycott efforts

By Zhang Yunfei | China Daily | Updated: 2010-11-09 07:52

YANGON, Myanmar -The multiparty general elections in Myanmar ran smoothly on Sunday, according to media reports.

And though it will be days before the final results of the election are known, information available so far indicates that the majority of the people have chosen to vote with an eye for change.

The election - the first multi-party vote in two decades - represented the fifth step of Myanmar's seven-step roadmap to democracy with the aim of transforming a military government to a civilian one.
