Loss of water well means cold winter

Residents from more than 1,300 households in a neighborhood named Tianxin Home in Dongxiaokou township, Changping district, are dreading the prospect of winter without proper heating, something that may happen because the community's well failed five months ago.

A manager from the community's property management company, surnamed Ji, said the local government had initiated the digging of a new well near the neighborhood but residents were not satisfied and were calling instead to join the municipal water system.

Local officials told Beijing News that it would not be possible to set up a municipal water system in the near future, pointing out that old pipes in the community would need to be replaced beforehand, something that would likely cost around 30 million yuan.
