Pampering at face value

Hong Kong

Being on holiday is having the time to relax. Rebecco Lo has a quick guide to the best spas.

Pampering at face value

Hong Kongers are known for their ability to work hard and play hard. They are also pretty good at getting the best value for their money when it comes to a well-deserved session of pampering after a hard week at the office.

Newly launched and exclusive to Hyatt Regency, Sha Tin is Nadia Payot's extensive range of spa products designed for all skin types. The Russian-born Payot was a renowned skin-care specialist in France. Along with her patent invention Pte Grise for eliminating blemishes overnight, her name is associated with a 32-step toning massage designed to keep your face firm and supple. Try one of her famous facials at Melo Spa and see what a little exercise can do for your skin.

Plus, the fresh air of Sha Tin in the New Territories should enhance the relaxing experience.

If traditional Indian Ayurveda is more your thing, try the immensely calming Shirodhara treatment at Mandarin Oriental's excellent spa. A comforting stream of oil is steadily poured onto the center of your forehead - the "third eye" - to promote deep relaxation, restore balance and reduce anxiety.

Long a favorite of local celebrity wives, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental offers an assortment of facials to go with Shirodhara. The convenient central location means you can pop in for a treatment in between shopping and sightseeing.

Those who favor seaside spas have a choice between Sense of Touch and The Retreat, both of which are located in Repulse Bay, the famous beach enclave on Hong Kong island.

While Sense of Touch has a number of other outlets in Central, its Repulse Bay location is the only one with a pretty green garden retreat where you can sip tea before or after treatments. Aromatherapy Associates facials ensure that floral fragrances reach deep down inside for a heady treatment.

The Retreat combines a Toni & Guy hair salon, a "light bite" cafe and a spa with a dedicated children's play area so kids can romp while their moms relax. Facials feature Elemis, Murad and Organic Spa products, depending on the results you seek and the depth of your pockets.
