Nation's promising stars fail to live up to potential on home soil

BEIJING - Things appear to be getting tougher for the young generation of Chinese women tennis players as they crashed out of the first round of the China Open at the weekend.

After crushing defeats, youngsters including Zhang Shuai, Lu Jingjing and Han Xinyun are set to finish the season with major drops in their world rankings.
