Liao Changyong Concert
Reputed as the Asia's number one baritone, Liao Changyong won first prize at the 41st French International Toulouse Singing Competition, the Placido Domingo World Opera Competition and the Queen Songja International Music Competition between 1996 and 1997. These awards are considered some of the highest honors in the field. He played an active role as Shanghai applied to host the Expo 2010 Shanghai and performed at many important events. Now he will perform a solo concert in hopes of helping more people understand classical music arts.

Camerata Salzburg Concert
The Camerata Salzburg from Austria is one of the most outstanding chamber orchestras worldwide and is known for performing perfect interpretations of Mozart's music. Salzburg was not only Mozart's home, but the founder, Bernhard Paumgartner, was also the principal of Wiener Mozart Akademie. The concert in Shanghai features violinist Lukas Hagen and viola player Iris Juda-Hagen.

Song of Farewell
The original opera production Song of Farewell will be performed at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, featuring music from the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the chorus from the Shanghai Opera House. The show tells the story of Tang Qisheng, a Peking opera playwright who was popular in the 1920s.

Aiko
New York-based Japanese artist Aiko Nakagawa is having her first solo exhibition in Shanghai. Fresh to Shanghai from recent exhibitions in Los Angeles, Aiko participated in the JIA Hotel and Andrew James Art residency program for one month to prepare for her first solo exhibition in Asia. Aiko was born in Tokyo but has been living and working in New York since the late 1990s. The exhibition will go on until Oct 31.

Ward Schumaker
Recent paintings by Ward Schumaker are on exhibit at Stir Gallery. Schumaker is a widely published, exhibited and versatile artist, who has created a series of paintings employing cut-paper texts, paint spills and deft brushwork. The texts, derived from the Hindu Gitas, European musical theater and the artist's dreams, in his paintings and hand-bound books can be read as abstract shapes or can be read literally.

Art camp
For the second phase of the 7th Asia-Europe Art - Camp Art Workshop for Visual Arts 2009/2010, the workshop will work with Luxembourg partners and an Asian partner with the exhibition themed Moved, Mutated and Disturbed Identities. It will challenge the participating Asian and European artists on their ideas of realities and identities in Luxembourg and China. The Art Camp will include a residency, a symposium, a workshop and a public exhibition. Following the model of the Luxembourg phase, three workshop leaders will facilitate the processes of artistic exchange and creation among 10 artists from Europe and Asia.
