Yao's mentor gets Cavs' coaching role

BEIJING - The man who discovered Yao Ming, Li Qiuping, who is also a former coach of the Chinese Basketball Association's (CBA) Shanghai Sharks, has been appointed an assistant coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the coming 2010-2011 season.

Yao's mentor gets Cavs' coaching role

Li flew to the United States on Thursday and became the first Chinese coach join the staff of an NBA team.

"It's a precious opportunity for me to learn the advanced coaching skills and training methods of the NBA. I am ready to be a good student," Li told Xinmin Evening News.
