Ports joined as trading hub

Xiamen Port and Zhangzhou Port were integrated on Aug 31 and are being called Xiamen Port. The Xiamen Port authority is now in charge of both ports. The new Xiamen Port will be an international shipping hub of container traffic of international trade and bulk cargo transportations.

In a press conference on Aug 31, Yu Weiguo, municipal party secretary of Xiamen indicated: "The integration of the two ports breaks administrative restrictions and realizes scientific and optimized developments of the region."

The harbor districts of former Zhangzhou Port, Gulei, Dongshan, Yunxiao and Zhaoan merged into Xiamen Port, which is now made up of 12 harbor districts. Yu added that the integration of port resources within the same bay is conducive to taking advantage of resources to promote the rapid development of the provincial shipping business with more visible effects.
