Chengdu accepts blame for fan attack

China Daily | Updated: 2010-09-02 07:58

Match organizers for second-tier side Chengdu Blades announced on Wednesday they were willing to accept the punishment from the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for an incident that left a player from a rival club with glass in his left eye.

In a statement to Shenyang Dongjin and the CFA, the Chengdu side apologized to its opponent, Feng Shaoshun and Feng's family for fan violence following the teams' 1-1 draw on Sunday. It also said it would thoroughly investigate the incident in cooperation with the local public security office.

Chengdu fans pelted the Shenyang bus with stones after the match, shattering the windows and sending glass into Feng's eye. The player, who is still hospitalized, underwent one operation the following morning and faces another round of surgery this week to remove the glass.
