Over-protecting youth's privacy

From Sept 1, it will become illegal for parents in Chongqing municipality to check their children's chat records, and their messages online and on cell phones. But it is not wise to protect the privacy rights of youngsters and neglect parents' right to be informed, says an article on www.rednet.com. Excerpts:

The original purpose and efforts made to protect the "privacy" of minors through new regulations have to be honored. But parents should have the right to know what their minor children are doing. It is not at all healthy for youngsters' development if their privacy "rights" are protected and parents' right to know what their wards are doing ignored.
