Murray, Clijsters to make China debut

China Daily | Updated: 2010-08-27 07:48

BEIJING - Men's world No 4 Andy Murray and women's No 3 Kim Clijsters will make their debuts in this country at the China Open in October, organizers announced on Wednesday.

The duo is expected to lift the ATP-WTA joint event to a new level.

The women's tournament became the last stop of the WTA's four crown jewel events with total prize money of $4.5 million last year, and the world's top 47 players are again mandated to play at the National Tennis Center in Beijing this year. World No 14 Justine Henin, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, is the only exception due to a right elbow injury.
