Chinese fans need to relax
Evidently, instant gratification is no longer limited to Western societies.
Faced with a side in transition, a new coach and an injured superstar in the twilight of his career, Chinese basketball fans apparently feel the national team should keep winning regardless of the circumstances. To insist on such a seamless transition, though, is to disregard the reality staring them in the face.
Yao Ming is not walking through that door. If he does, it will be with the slow gait of someone not yet ready to face top-flight competition or a hectic World Championship schedule. Yao is absolutely correct to insist that now is the time for the next generation of Chinese stars to step forward and become the face of the national team.
