Artist Liu Linghua, whose oil paintings are famous for depicting scenes and figures from Peking opera, has captured the admiration of both the general public and craftsmen. One of his masterpieces, Roses in a Chinese Mansion, is a perfect example.

When Liu was painting Roses in a Chinese Mansion, famous shoemaker Silvano Lattanzl was visiting his new store in China. He accidentally came across Liu's studio and was intrigued by the charm of the then unfinished painting.

Lattanzl claimed it to be "the best artwork he has seen in his life".

To show his appreciation and respect for Liu, Lattanzl invited him to the opening ceremony of his new store. In return, Liu sent his Italian fan an embroidery of his most well-known work, The Drunken Beauty. Amazed at the rich color and vivid characterization of the work, the delighted Italian shoemaker remarked to the audience and journalists present about its beauty. He called it "simply stunning".
