Australians will go to the polls on Aug 21 to elect a new Prime Minister, but I bet you Melbourne to a brick that over the past week the major talking point Down Under was yesterday's clash between top-of-the-table Aussie Rules sides Collingwood and Geelong.
Politicians come and go, unless they are named Menzies, but the great Australian game always remains.
Cricket may be the country's national game, but Aussie Rules, Rules or Footy is Australia's game. It is head and heels above its winter sports rivals, which include the two rugby codes and soccer, in terms of participation, attendance and passion.
