Husbands given the boot for soccer love
The World Cup turned thousands of husbands around the world into couch potatoes and led to many getting the red card from frustrated wives who filed for divorce.
And things were no different in Beijing's district courts where many disappointed wives started proceedings. According to statistics, every four years, after the World Cup, divorce rates in Beijing climb as wives say they cannot stand the neglect from their husbands any longer.
One woman cried in court and said to her husband: "Do you want to spend your life with soccer, or with me? There was a pile of unwashed dishes stacked up high in the kitchen and dirty clothes were stinking in the washing machine. Every time I complained, you said I was bugging you while you were watching the World Cup."
