Film crew awarded embroidery

Famous painting The Drunken Beauty has had a historical link with traditional Peking opera. Drawing inspiration from the opera of the same title, the painting was once put up for exhibition at the Chinese Peking Opera Festival, allowing many opera fans to glimpse the beauty and charm of Chinese traditional culture.
In December 2008, at the launch of the film Mei Lanfang, a biography of one of Chinese greatest opera artists Mei Lanfang who had once played a leading role in the opera The Drunken Beauty, Shanghai Chinese Quintessence Art Co Ltd, the producer of the embroidery The Drunken Beauty, presented a piece of this delicate work to the crew, to pay homage to the talent of the master Mei Lanfang and the filmmakers.
On behalf of the whole crew, Chen Kaige, the director, Leon Lai, who played Mei Lanfang, and Zhang Ziyi, who played Meng Xiaodong, Mei's female friend, received the artwork and showed great interest in it.
The artwork added a unique charm to both the film and the painting.
