Designer encapsulates demand for a more compact living space

By Yang Wanli | China Daily | Updated: 2010-06-28 08:00

Removal work on the city's first capsule apartment building started on Saturday. But Huang Rixin, the designer of the apartment, said the new upgraded version was already in production and would be built in Xibeiwang, Haidian district.

"I planned to build 60 units originally, but now I can only afford 16 of them. I strongly believe that my idea to build capsule apartments is both creative and feasible. Although the plan hasn't received any investment yet, this doesn't mean it isn't good," said 75-year-old Huang.

"I am considering forming a company for the new apartment."
