Refs under fire after poor start
I have been watching lots of soccer over the past two weeks. And I have heard a lot from fans questioning the calls by some referees after the first two rounds of the World Cup.
The press has also been buzzing about some bad calls by referees. The three most questionable calls are Brazil striker Luis Fabiano's use of his hand in the build-up to scoring "one of the most beautiful goals" in his career in Sunday night's victory over Cote d'Ivoire, a Malian referee's call to disallow a late goal by the US in their 2-2 draw with Slovenia and Australia striker Harry Kewell being dismissed for a handball by referee Roberto Rosetti after keeping out Jonathan Mensah's shot on the goalline.
It must have been a nightmare for French referee Stphane Lannoy and his linesmen when they saw in replays after the game Fabiano's obvious hand ball, two times, before scoring, let go two vicious attacks on the Brazilian players by Cote d'Ivoire players and finally made the game totally sour by sending off Kaka in the final minutes.
