US bounce back to earn crucial point

The United States fought back from a two-goal deficit in Johannesburg on Friday night to earn a crucial point in their Group C clash with Slovenia and keep their hopes of advancing to the final 16 alive.

European underdogs Slovenia claimed what appeared to be a decisive edge against the US in the first half at Ellis Park thanks to goals from Valter Birsa and Zlatan Ljubijankic.

Midfielder Birsa got on the scoresheet in the 13th minute witjh a cracking 25-yard shot which curled into the top cornerof the net. Forward Ljubijankic doubled the lead just before halftime with his 42nd-minute effort after a fine buildup.
