Secondhand smoke chokes many women and children

By Yang Wanli | China Daily | Updated: 2010-06-18 07:55

Recent research by the Beijing Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows women and children have become the groups most at risk of exposure to tobacco smoke in the capital.

"More than 40 percent of children are exposed to tobacco smoke in their families and nearly 56 percent are suffering from secondhand smoke exposure," said Duan Jiali, director of the school health department with the Beijing CDC.

"Secondhand smoke exposure is not only threatening children's health but is also the main cause of them becoming addicted to smoking."
