BEIJING - Delta Air Lines, the world's largest airline, launched nonstop flights from Beijing to Seattle on Sunday to meet rising travel demand between the United States and China.

The new service, running five times a week, is one of four new nonstop services Delta is introducing to Asia this month. The Atlanta-based carrier launched nonstop flights from Seoul to Detroit on June 2, from Hong Kong to Detroit on June 4, and will start flying from Osaka to Seattle on June 8.

"Travel is picking up both in the short term and definitely in the long term. In the long term, China is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world, both internally and on US-China routes. Although we had a bit of recession over the last few months, we are seeing travel picking up across our entire network," said Vinay Dube, senior vice-president, Asia Pacific, Delta Air Lines.
