Mobilization of residentsfor security wins plaudits

Beijing has created its own "mode" of mobilizing the masses to form the main force for urban management and social construction, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

The number of social order volunteers in Beijing has reached 1.4 million, Li Wanjun, director of the Office of the Capital Comprehensive Management of Social Order Commission, was quoted by Xinhua as saying on Monday.

"I often walk around in the neighborhood to check out strangers wandering in the community," said Quan Guojun, a resident of the Huixinli community who began his volunteer stint after his retirement three years ago.
