E-Town alights on project for lamp disposals

By Meng Jing | China Daily | Updated: 2010-06-04 08:00

As many as 100,000 used fluorescent lights which are regarded as hazardous waste are expected to be collected and treated in e-Town every year.

The trail operation kicked off in e-Town on Thursday, which makes the economic-technological development area of Daxing district the first place in Beijing to treat and dispose of fluorescent light lamps.

The lamps, which contain mercury, are categorized as hazardous waste in China. The toxic material, when placed in typical landfills, poses a risk to water and food supplies.
