Young people in Beijing, especially in the central districts, are showing little zeal for joining the army, an inspection by the Beijing municipal people's congress revealed.
That is putting pressure on the city's enlistment task, as pointed out in a meeting Friday led by Ren Enshang, vice-director of the inspection group.
With more than 12 million people, Beijing had an enlistment quota of 3,700 in 2009, meaning about 0.3 people per 1,000 residents should enlist.
